Who we are

This website is published by Leo Shalit, PC, a New York professional corporation practising as Shalit Group, at 45 Glen Cove Road, Greenvale, New York 11548.

Before you send us anything

This section comes first because it matters more than the rest of the policy combined.

Do not send confidential, privileged, or sensitive details through this website. Sending a message through the case evaluation form does not create an attorney–client relationship, and no such relationship exists until a written agreement for legal services is executed. Until that point, what you send us is not protected by the attorney–client privilege.

Unsolicited information may also not prevent the firm from representing someone whose interests are adverse to yours — another reason to keep a first message brief.

Email is not a secure medium, and a web form is not an immediate one. If your matter is sensitive, or if you are facing an arraignment, a filing deadline, or a limitations period, call 833.742.5481 instead of writing. A phone call is both faster and more private.

The case evaluation form

The form asks for your name, your email address, your phone number, and whatever you choose to write in the message field. The phone number is optional; the rest is needed for us to reply.

What you submit is composed into a plain-text email and delivered to the firm's intake inbox by Resend, our email delivery provider. It is not written to a database — this website does not have one. The inbox is the record.

If the delivery fails, the site tells you so and asks you to call rather than reporting a success that did not happen. In that case, and only in that case, the contents of your message are written to the server error log so that the enquiry can still be found and answered. That log is the recovery path for a message that would otherwise have been lost silently.

Payments

The payment page asks for your name, phone number, email address, the amount, the type of payment, and any reference you choose to add. Those details are passed to Stripe, our payment processor, in order to open a checkout session.

Your card details are entered on Stripe's own hosted checkout page. They do not pass through this website's servers and are never stored by us — neither the firm nor this site ever sees your full card number. Stripe handles that information as an independent company under its own privacy policy.

Making a payment does not by itself create an attorney–client relationship or oblige the firm to accept a matter. Retainers and advances are held and applied in accordance with your engagement agreement.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. It sets two cookies, both first-party to this domain, named _ga and _ga_TS3Z4VGJ0E. They carry a randomly generated identifier for the browser, not your name. This site stores nothing else in your browser.

We use this to see which practice areas people actually read and whether the site is doing its job. We do not sell personal information, and this site carries no advertising of its own.

Browser controls

Every major browser can block or delete cookies, for this site specifically or in general. Doing so does not affect anything on this site apart from the measurement described above.

Google's opt-out

Google publishes a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout that stops Google Analytics collecting data from your browser on any site, including this one.

No banner

This site does not interrupt you with a cookie banner. The cookies above are measurement cookies rather than ones we use to advertise to you, and the controls listed here are available to you at any time without one.

Google advertising features

Google's advertising features are presently enabled on our analytics property. That means Google may also set or read cookies associated with the doubleclick.net domain when you visit, and may use what it collects to build the audience and interest categories it offers advertisers generally.

The firm does not advertise to you on the basis of that data, does not run retargeting on this site, and does not sell it. If you would rather Google did not use it, the controls in the previous section apply, and Google's own advertising settings at myadcenter.google.com give you further control over how it uses your data across all sites.

Services this site relies on

A handful of outside companies make this site work. Each is independent, receives only what it needs to perform its function, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Vercel

Hosts the site. Like any web host it keeps ordinary server logs — IP address, the page requested, browser type, timestamp — used for security and reliability.

Resend

Delivers case evaluation form submissions to the firm's inbox.

Stripe

Processes card payments, on its own hosted checkout page.

Google Analytics

Measurement, as described above.

Elfsight

Supplies the Google reviews card shown in the corner of each page. Because the widget loads from Elfsight's servers, they receive your IP address and browser information as a consequence of it loading.

Google Maps

Our address links to the firm's listing on Google Maps. Following that link takes you to Google, under Google's terms.

What this site does not do

It is worth being specific about the things a website of this kind often does and this one does not.

No accounts

There is nothing to sign up for. No logins, no passwords, no profiles.

No mailing list

We do not run a newsletter and will not add you to one. If you write to us, we reply about your enquiry.

No sale of data

We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

No retargeting

This site carries no advertising pixels of its own and does not follow you around the internet.

Not for children

Nothing here is directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

How long we keep things

An enquiry that becomes a matter is retained as part of the firm's records, for as long as the firm's obligations as attorneys and your engagement agreement require. An enquiry that does not become a matter is kept only as long as needed to answer it and to run the conflict checks a firm is required to run before it can act.

Server logs, including the error log described above, are retained for a limited period as part of ordinary operations and then discarded. Analytics data is retained for the period configured in the analytics property.

Security

The site is served entirely over HTTPS. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers. Client files are not kept on this website — it is a public site, and the firm's actual case material lives elsewhere.

That said, no transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, and we will not claim otherwise. That is precisely why the caution in the second section of this policy is worth taking seriously.

Your choices

You can ask what the firm holds about you as a result of an enquiry, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to info@shalit-law.com. We will do so unless the firm's obligations as attorneys — record retention, conflict checking — require us to keep it, in which case we will tell you that.

Depending on where you live you may have specific statutory privacy rights. Where they apply to us, we will honour them. You do not need to invoke a statute to ask us a question about your own information.

Other sites

Where this site links elsewhere — to Google Maps, to a news outlet that has covered the firm, to Stripe — those destinations are outside our control and are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or their practices.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of the page changes with it. Where a change is material rather than housekeeping, we will say so on this page rather than leaving you to compare versions.
